Town Projects
Community Centre

The Urlingford town team has now embarked on Phase 2 of our work to deliver our goal of upgrading and developing the Parochial Hall/ Community Centre. We were delighted with the large number of locals who volunteered their time over four weekends in April and May to clear out the building before the contractor started. As was the case for Phase 1 when the Town Team in partnership with Urlingford Parish/ Diocese of Ossory successfully applied for grant aid in the amount of € 300,000 under the 2022 call for the CCIF*, we have again successfully partnered with our Parish in our application to Kilkenny County Council for €500,000 under the TVRS 2023* to carry out Phase 2 . *( CCIF(Community Centre Investment Fund), and TVRS ( Town and Village Renewal Scheme)are funded by the Department of Rural and Community Development.)

Remote Working Hub

The Urlingford Town Team was delighted to welcome Minister Heather Humphreys T.D, to formally open Exit 4 Urlingford on 24 April 2024. Exit 4 remains the only such fully dedicated hub in rural Kilkenny run by a voluntary group. A huge thanks to the Department of Rural and Community Development, Kilkenny County Council and LEO (Local Enterprise Office) and Kilkenny LEADER Partnership for all of their continued support for this project. We would also like to thank our growing list of businesses and individual clients who are using our facilities and services. Most recently, on 13 June last LEO in collaboration with SETU ( South East Technological University ) announced the winners of START/Exit 4 Innovation Competition 2025 which was run from Exit 4. The overall winner was Shane Doherty from Ballycallan and the runners up are Mark Dunne from Kilkenny and Denis Queally from Urlingford. As part of their awards, all three will work from Exit 4. We congratulate all the winners and look forward to welcoming them to Exit 4 in due course. And in another important development, SETU has decided to use Exit 4 Urlingford as its base from which to deliver support o for rural innovation and collaboration in Kilkenny and also in North Tipperary and South Laois. We are delighted to see Exit 4 Urlingford supporting the development of local innovation and entrepreneurship. Go to https://exit4urlingford.ie/ for more details.

Community Website
Walking Trails
Improved Public Realm
The Urlingford Town Team is creating an inclusive online space where all the sporting, recreational, and community groups can come together in a single digital landing space.
The Urlingford Town Team is working with Kilkenny County Council to develop the Islands Walk with a view to connecting the walk into the planned Littleton Labyrinth, a network of walks/cyclepaths that form a part of Tipperary County Councils Tourism Strategy. In May of this year, €,30,000 was awarded to the Council under the Outdoor Recreation grant scheme to address safety issues identified by Sports Ireland on the Islands Walk. Once these safety issues have been addressed to the satisfaction of Sports Ireland, the walk will become a registered walk and will become eligible for more development funding.
The Urlingford Town Team will work with Kilkenny County Council through the framework of the Council’s new Masterplan for Urlingford ( adopted by KCC in September 2023) to provide a public realm for everyone irrespective of their age or ability, one that encourages more activity on Main Street.

Digital Town
Library Collaboration
.IE, the company that manages the Irish .ie domain, recently announced €1 million fund to enable a nation of “Digital Towns.” The Urlingford Town Team is delighted to be involved with this initiative. The fund is to be delivered over the next four years and will serve to encourage and enhance digital adoption in Ireland’s towns.
The Urlingford Town Team collaborated with Kilkenny Library Service to set up a Self-Service Laptop Loan facility, available in the newly-opened room in the library. UTT will continue to collaborate with Library Service and acted as a stakeholder in the recent Consultation Survey by the Irish Public Libraries Strategy.
